For Allie Wainer, Sid Wainer & Son has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember.
“I always knew I wanted to be a part of the business,” says Allie, whose father, Henry Wainer is President and Owner of the company started by her great grandfather. “I remember I loved going to work with my father on Saturdays as a child. We would run around the coolers, taking in all the smells and visiting with the friendly faces. Even our family dinners at home were part of the business,” notes Allie. Typical dinners for the Wainer family include everyone around the table, tasting and discussing the interesting, new food her father would bring home from a sourcing trip overseas. “It wasn’t uncommon for me to bring an artichoke or wheel of gourmet cheese to school for lunch as a child,” she recalls laughing.
Eager to learn the business after graduating cum laude from Boston University’s School of Hospitality, Allie worked in various areas within the food and hospitality industry, including jobs and internships with major hotels, caterers, event planners, local restaurants, and specialty food shops. “I wanted to experiment with different aspects of the business to get a sense of the big picture,” says Allie.
Today, as Executive Vice President for Sid Wainer & Son, Allie works to shape the future direction of her family's company. “I love going to work every day,” says Allie, “It’s amazing to be a part of something my great grandfather started 100 years ago that has retained such a wonderful reputation within the industry with so many dedicated people. While we are expanding every day, we always stay true to the quality of our ingredients and values.”
